Deep Sick

The digital revolution is no longer merely a feature of the modern era; it has become a pivotal tool reshaping the global power landscape. While the United States has led for decades in technological and cyberspace dominance, China is now confidently advancing toward what can be termed the "Chinese Deep Seek"¿a complex and interconnected digital space encompassing a range of highly sophisticated and interconnected applications, technologies, and digital structures through which Beijing manages its vision for controlling the present and shaping the future. The term "Deep Seek," originally inspired by concepts such as "deep web" and "cybersecurity," takes on a distinct character in the Chinese context. It blends cutting-edge technology, tightly controlled digital policies, and the strategic deployment of artificial intelligence and big data within a Chinese vision aimed at redefining the concepts of sovereignty, control, and hegemony in the digital age. This trend comes within the context of the "Digital China" project launched by the Chinese Communist Party, which is not limited to upgrading technological infrastructure but also includes building an integrated system of "intelligent surveillance," "digital citizenship," and "social categorization"¿concepts that have become central to global debate regarding the relationship between technology and freedom, and between progress and censorship. This book seeks to explore this deep digital world that China is building by analyzing the tools used within it, such as 5G networks, smart surveillance cameras, artificial intelligence algorithms, and surveillance applications like WeChat and TikTok. It also examines Beijing's efforts to build its own sovereign internet, known as the "Great Firewall," which is considered one of the most prominent models for isolating the digital interior from external influences. The book also discusses the dimensions of the "Chinese Deep Sek" in terms of its political, security, and cultural impacts, as well as its geopolitical repercussions on the world, especially in light of the intense technological competition between China and the West. As the trade and technology war between Beijing and Washington escalates, digital technology has become a new arena for international conflict, and the "deep web" has transformed into a new kind of cold war, waged with data and algorithms instead of conventional weapons. This book does not aim to demonize China's digital project, but rather to understand it, deconstruct its structure, and anticipate its consequences. The world today stands at a crossroads: either artificial intelligence and deep technologies will be harnessed to serve and liberate humanity, or they will be used to restrict and monitor it in an unprecedented manner. China, with its unique digital experience, represents a complex model of this ethical and technological challenge, deserving careful study and critical review.
